A Little Lost

The yard is mowed, and the flowers are growing, not because of anything I’ve done but more because I think they thrive on being most left to their own devices.

I thought for sure the clematis was dead, but it clings to the iron frame of the old piano. The Virginia creeper does the same, despite my every effort to remove it.

In ten years’ time, perhaps the old piano will be completely consumed come spring. I put it there in hopes of that. The rose bush, now in its second year, remains stubbornly independent, growing away from the iron and toward the sun. I hesitate to force it…
